Mowing is the key to a healthy lawn and each cut encourages the grass to grow more thickly, which helps to block out weeds and makes the grass more hard wearing.
Cutting the grass can take up quite a lot of time in the growing season usually from around the beginning of march and running though until the end of December depending on the weather.
The time taken on mowing will depend on many things the most obvious being the total size of the lawn or lawns but is also affected by the complexity of the area, how many trees or shrubs are in the lawn, how many borders there are, if there are any slopes and how steep they may be, how easy is it to access the front, back and or sides of the property, the size, quality and condition of the Grass Cutting equipment being used.
And finally the mowing frequency plays a part in the overall mowing time per month, it could be more efficient to cut once a week maintaining a fairly shot lawn for 10 minutes, than leaving it to once a fortnight and it taking 30 minutes, when cutting once a week it may be possible to cut the whole lawn without having to empty the grass box, where as leaving it for two weeks may mean the extra length fills the box requiring multiple trips to empty it!
Maintaining the right height of cut will make the grass healthy, thick and more disease, weed and moss resistant. Most grass should be keep between 2.5cm and 4cm, shaded and heavy traffic areas can be slightly longer, to maintain the desired height it may be necessary to adjust mowing frequency throughout the year with most cuts required in summer unless prolonged dry spells are experienced when cutting frequency should be reduced and cutting height should be increased.
